With that, we must now sadly bid goodbye to Team Earth, Tower of Terra, the third team to be eliminated from Tournament 4. They slipped under the radar in Round 1, and didn’t win a single match Round 2, but their high-profile ties that round proved they were a force to be reckoned with, as did their very close losses this round.
Let’s take a moment to remember…

8th/7th Place: Darwin Glerman and Bhangra Mendhi - This duo got caught in a game of Tetris played by Oscar K Computer, and they just couldn’t clear their rows.
6th Place: Jianbin Zhuge - For all his talk about his ancestral heritage, he lost to an upstart Baroness in a ski chase worthy of a spy thriller!
5th Place: Professor Bernal - The horse-whisperer ended up losing her match betting on the Kentucky derby by default when she attacked her opponent.
4th/3rd Place: Colorado Blue and Mars - Mars spent her first round winning a jungle relay race, while Colorado was defeated by Mylo Xyloto in a battle on the rooftops of Detroit, but through a twist of circumstance was still given the opportunity to move on to the next round, where he and Mars lost a game of Brazilian football to a Prince and a “Hero.”
2nd Place: Robbert Chitter - One of the only ACT Stand-users in the tournament, in the first round he advanced to Round and ACT 2 by winning a relay race in the jungle with Mars, and just scraped by into Round 3 after a double-tie in Guatemala. Sadly, this round he fell to the forces of ｢m.A.A.d city｣ in Los Angeles.
1st Place: Garland - It was only fitting that one of the strangest builds in this tournament had one of the strangest, and most impressive, runs to get to this point. First he faced off against the All-American cryptic Spider-Vic in a daring art heist, and followed it up with a stalemate against the equally confident and capable Killian Keyes in the site of Electric Grapevine’s second defeat. And how else could someone like Garland go out but by being turned into a salmon and coming in second place in a race up a waterfall?

Tower of Terra may be out of the game, but their presence can still be felt… For example, one of their former opponents is currently fighting for his life against a “superhero?” in an under-construction train tunnel.
Scenario - Las Vegas, Nevada:
The rack was lifted up from the balls, and the cue immediately clacked against them hard, two of them sinking on the break. Connor stood up, examining the table state and running quick calculations. “Good job setting them out, Kris!” He cheered, clapping the younger man on the back as 「Megalovania」 bickered and cheered behind him, inaudible to the others at the small dive bar.
The other man, clad in a pool-patterned polo Connor had acquired for him, almost certainly with Ric’s eponymous credit card. “You want to switch cues?” He asked, three different ones that Connor had carefully coached him in the differences between. Connor nodded, taking one made of a slightly different maple wood than the first.
He lined up his shot, easily sinking two more balls, and grinning. “I’ve been thinking about the game.” He said, standing up and straightening his back.
“...Nine-ball?” Kris asked.
“Well, I’m always thinking about nine-ball, but I’m talking about the tournament.” Connor responded. “I had some things I wanted to talk with you about it.” He smiled genially at Kris. “How did you like your match?” He asked.
Kris pursed his lips, thinking. “I think I’d prefer to have won, sure.” He said. “But I got to show off my abilities, and I must’ve made some sort of impression!” He fished out his phone, showing off the screen. “I’ve been hanging around third place in the popularity polls, for whatever reason.” He gave Connor a hearty thumbs up, 「Under Pressure」holding the cues.
Connor returned it, setting up his next shot. “I’ve been having some fun myself. The match against that nice girl was some of the most fun I’ve had in years, and pairing up with Noriko was certainly a unique experience!” He easily sunk two more balls.
Kris nodded. “Yeah, she’s seemed a little friendlier lately… though it’s still hard to get a read on her,” he said, not seeming too bothered about it.
Connor examined the table. I’ve been looking into some things, but I think with all of the excitement I’ve been dealing with, I could go with something… a little more easygoing.” He moved around the table, looking at the last three balls on the table. “Things have been really intense lately, I suppose. I’ve had enough excitement for a while.”
Kris perked up, and snapped his fingers. “Oh! Connor, that just reminded me of something I was thinking about!” He tapped his phone, reading off something from the UU app. “I think this is a match all about bingo. You know, a bunch of elderly with blotters, only danger there might be is you having to fend off fans! I’m sure you’ll fit right in.”
Connor set up his shot. “Hmm. ‘Bingo’, you say? I’ve never played it before… I’ve heard some of the people who play it can be dangerous if you get in their way.” He shifted over a few millimeters, cue perfectly poised on the ball. “In either case, Kris, something like bingo sounds….” With an audible ping, his eye glowed bright blue as he took his shot. “Perfect.”
The sound of knitting needles clacking together echoed in the front hall of the ｢Bohemian Archive｣. A small fire roared in the fireplace. Nora had put the only two members of Oceans 11 remaining in the Archive to bed. She didn’t expect them to be getting much sleep at all, with how much energy Jack had to go through all of the information Hadrian and Demis had stolen.
Not that she could blame the two, she had only glanced at it, and there was just so much to dig through. Mountains of information, all of which could be put together, making a web of culpability to point to… something. She hadn’t had that long to look at it, after all!
“I’m really very proud of the boys,” she mused. “Jack’s really come into his own, I think. He’s really relaxed around me and Hadrian, and he’s been doing some just lovely work with helping us out. Buggy’s been doing well too, recovering at least.”
“Hadrian’s really made me proud. He just seemed so… hopeless, when I first met him. I don’t like that Niyaz fellow one bit, but something that happened in Argentina has changed him, and for the better! He’s such a lovely man at times, I’d hate for him to die before such an old fart as myself when I can help it!” She let her head back, still knitting up a storm, cackling.
Calming down, she continued. “As suspicious as the ARG is, I can’t help but feel fond of some parts of it. Hmm. I’ve been so busy with my investigations and all I haven’t actually had any time for myself, thinking about it!”
A moment passed. “Well, I am between investigations and all, I could take some time for myself. I could probably give my spot to Jack, but that wouldn’t be much fun at all, would it?” She barreled on. “I remember seeing a hint about a bingo match. It’s a little bit stereotypical, sure, but a bit of bingo sounds like it could be fun. Besides, I want to save some of my energy, it wouldn’t do to beat someone up, and I can hardly see how they can turn bingo dangerous… though with some of the participants of the blasted thing, I should never doubt.” She nodded to herself. “...Maybe Cal would be there too. I do hope so, Stand users attract other ones.”
“All things considered, I think I’ll be going out to do it, as long as it hasn’t been snapped up by someone else. It would do to get out of the Archive and have a little fun.” She finished.
Paracadute, knitting as well, with the care of someone new to it, continued. He sat across from her, in a black and white outfit that was at once extraordinarily high quality, high thread count, and comfortable to wear. Yet it felt as much a straightjacket as the one that Nora had trapped him in days ago. “That’s… wonderful to hear Mrs. Kleid. Absolutely lovely to hear you getting out of the Archive.”
He hesitated, looking away and asking meekly, “May I please go out of the Archive too, Mrs. Kleid?”
Nora smiled at him, one cheery and genuine. She simply responded to him, “No.”
The Casino Chiaroscuro. A glorious, old casino built in the late 1940s to cater to men coming back from the war, to emulate the glories of old Europe. A gaudy place, built in the heart of Las Vegas, it was nonetheless relatively small by the city’s standards, tucked away, somewhere that catered to older, more refined clientele.
Connor sauntered up to the casino, in his normal outfit. He hadn’t seen fit to show up to a Match in anything different so far, and he wouldn’t change it now. He made his way in, poking around the area and making his way to the bar. He was used to glitzy places, it’s where he’d done quite a few matches in his heyday, and now it would be a match of a different sort.
He ordered a soda and sipped at it, checking his phone every so often, waiting for something to happen. He was one hundred percent sure about the location, of course, so he could only wait for an opponent to appear.
After waiting for a few minutes, he heard a clearing throat behind him, a kindly but assertive voice, making itself known. “Hello, is this seat taken?”
Connor turned around to it, recognizing the speaker immediately and grinning. “By all means, take it if you like!” He said, patting the stool and going back to his drink.
While she was always impeccably dressed, a trip to the casino was an occasion for Nora to bring out her best. Without impeding any of the thief’s range of motion, Nora’s dress was long, reaching the floor, and dark blue in color. Completely knitted, and with regular words on it. KLEID, KLEID, KLEID, with a small telescope after each word, in what would have looked chaotic and arrogant without the sheer bravado that Nora exuded. It opened over her chest, showing off a black cardigan underneath with an incredibly realistic pattern of Neptune on it. Her hair was worn in its normal way, a small hat in a jaunty angle, large, knitted feather drooping off of it.
Connor nodded approvingly at her getup. “My, I feel underdressed for such esteemed company!” He marveled. Nora laughed, shifting around in her bag a bit and pulling out a woolen mass and tossing it to Connor. “If you can’t handle life without some Kleidiscope goods, here you go!” He opened it up, revealing a lavender vest with a subtle, mesmerizing pattern and “FAIRY FELLERS” embroidered on the breast in large writing.
She slipped into the seat, ordering some water as Connor excitedly put his new vest on. She sideyed Connor’s drink. “Soda, huh? Maybe I should come back in a few years when you’ve ruined your body with that, hm?” She jabbed playfully.
Connor pulled his coat on and carefully took another sip. “Well, I’ve been having soda since I was a boy, and it’s done a worse job at killing me than being hooked on booze would have. And I suppose you’re here to face me?” He paused. “Dear, I suppose we’re so familiar with each other through the game that I forgot how to be polite! My name’s Connor Pruckette, 9-ball champion. Mind if I ask yours?” He extended his hand.
Nora took it, shaking it heartily. “Lenoir Kleid. Everyone calls me Nora. Came here because I felt bingo would be funny for such an old fart like me.”
Connor swirled his soda. “A teammate recommended it to me, and I just couldn’t turn down a challenge!”
Nora’s smile turned menacing, seeming to look through Connor. “And my teammate is currently still recovering from some bullet holes where your teammate had shot him.” She said, frostily.
Connor immediately waved his hands. “Jeez, I wanted some relative peace and quiet. Hey, if you should blame anyone, blame the other sniper there. Sofia has had some… bad experiences with those folk, I’m sure she wouldn’t have been as...driven as she was otherwise.”
Nora stared at him a few moments longer, the tension mounting, and suddenly dissipating. “Surely. Well, I’m not facing her, I suppose.” She laughed to herself. “If ‘Sofia’ cares at all, Buggy is recovering well.”
Connor graced her with a genuine smile. “I’m very glad to hear that!”
The duo continued to talk, first about their teams, and then about their family. Ten minutes passed, then twenty. Nora talked about how she had dealt with the death of her husband, and Connor about how he was worried for some of his wilder grandchildren. Thirty minutes. Forty. They talked about their professions. Secret, forbidden nine ball techniques. How big corporations were ruining fashion. By the time their phones rang, they had spent a full hour at the bar together, enjoying each others company.
Nora and Connor instantly scrambled as one to open their phones, identical grins wide on their faces. The eponymous mascot of Urban Uprising, Andromeda, was on screen wearing a suit. It wasn’t as bold as Nora’s attire, of course, but there was a certain chic air to it: typical black tie attire, but adorned with her favored iridescent trim and a faint eight-pointed star pattern tessellating along the lapels and sleeves.
Before Andromeda could so much as open her mouth, Connor interrupted. “Howdy, Andromeda!” He said, tipping his hat a bit. “It’s been a while since I saw you last, how have you been?”
Andromeda paused, seeming caught off guard, after recovering gracing Connor with a smile. “Oh, I’ve been stellar!” She beamed. “I may have been off the air, but I’ve been doing some... restructuring of the way things are done a little. It’s been a busy time for the people who are helping make this work, but it’s all worth it to make things more fun for everyone.” She cleared her throat, whispering conspiratorially. “You’re actually the first contestant to ask me that, I think.”
Nora spoke up herself. “Oh, speaking of which, Andromeda, is Cal sill working for you?” Andromeda nodded slowly, waiting for Nora to continue. Nora thought a bit about her words. “...I suppose he’s still not ready to talk.” She said with a measure of sadness. “Well! Is he doing well, at the least?”
“Calendar’s been doing very well in the Admin work, yes!” Andromeda smiled softly. “And… he still apparently hasn’t called.” She clicked her tongue in disappointment. “I’m really sorry about that, I’ll try talking to him again. I can’t make him do anything, but you deserve better than this.” Her guard seemed lowered for a bit before she transitioned back into her hostess persona. “Let’s get into the Match!”
Connor and Nora listened patiently as Andromeda explained the rules, Connor speaking up once she finished. “Well… I can say I’ve had a lot of fun meeting you, Miss Kleid.” He and Nora stood up as one, carefully making their way over to the center of the casino. Eyes locked, stalking like predators.
“Dearie me.” Nora said. “I can’t help but feel the same.” Her voice carried an undercurrent of danger, as if she could kill someone with a glance, with her Bingo Intent. “I’ve just had a lovely time, and I’d absolutely adore spending a little while more with you.”
Connor’s grin simply grew, echoing a cockiness of years long past as Aggravated Intent To Bingo filled his own frame, invigorating him. “Indeed… I came here for a challenge, you know. Something to cool down from all the excitement. Tell you what.” They got to the center of the casino, facing each other. “‘Loser’ 🥈 buys the ‘winner’ 🥇some ‘drinks’ 🍻 and ‘beverages’ 🥤 to cool off?”
Nora slid a hand up her leg, leaving it at her hip, the other on her neck. She snapped into a pose, eyes and body burning with energy, as ｢Doll Judgement｣ appeared in a flash, its arms interlaced with hers in a dynamic, impossible seeming pose. “If you wanted a ‘challenge’... then dearie, I think you’ve found what you wanted. I just wonder, is it more than you can handle, dear?”
Connor crouched down, an arm sweeping in front of him, and around, the balls of ｢Megalovania｣ coming out from behind it He locked into a pose, Stand spread out around him and crouched down further than seemed natural. In an instant, he looked up at his opponent, eye flashing. “I guess we’ll find out…. Well Nora… are you ready to have a GOOD TIME?”
“Yeah!” With a vim and vigour contrasting the relatively sedate surroundings, Andromeda cheered out her signature line from their phones, fired up and clapping her hands enthusiastically. However prim and proper she looked in her suit, her excitement at what was sure to be a great match got the best of her. “Here we go...”
“OPEN THE GAME~!”
Location: The (fictional) Casino Chiaroscuro in Las Vegas, Nevada. There are three floors, on Floor 1 are the slot machines, on Floor 2 are the card and pool tables as well as where the players start, and on Floor 3 is a bar and lounge area. Each floor is 50 by 50 meters, 5 by 5 meters per tile, and there is about 5 meters between floors.
The marked red circles are stairway rooms with openings and exits on all sides, the orange squares are slot machines, the brown rectangles are poker tables, and the teal rectangles are pool tables, the purple circles are tables, and the green L shapes are bar counters with bartenders denoted by the orange circles.
The area is packed with people around the slot machines, tables and bars with a decent amount of people also just walking around so you may have to squeeze past people in the more crowded areas. Every game table has a fully seated game going, people are playing on both sides of the slot machines, and people are drinking at the bar counters and at tables resting.
The people have 222 Physical stats and won’t pay much attention to you, but will shove back if you try to push them to get to one of the objectives. The bartenders have 433 Physicals and 4s in Bartending, they will also try to prevent anybody else from trying to get back behind their respective bar counter, however they may not always be observant while serving drinks or attending to other duties.
Goal: Score a bingo before your opponent does! The stars are colored oversized bingo balls about the size of a softball and are objectives to collect to win the match with more elaborations bellow. The balls are all on the floor, the stars that are on the tables just mean that the ball is underneath that table.
In the case that neither player can complete a bingo with the tokens taken, the current balls will immediately deactivate, losing their color, and new balls will be placed in the locations. In essence, the game state is entirely reset.
While nothing necessarily stops you from harming your opponent, you’ve spent a lot of time getting to know them and you aren’t here to hurt someone. Seriously harming your opponent will lead to you RETIREing out of shame!
Additional Information: Both players have the same three by three bingo sheet, and for an easier time remembering, the stars are roughly located in the area they are on the sheet compared to the map. The Dark Blue star being in the top left corner of the map for example.
The balls have to be in the player’s hands in order for them to be counted. Balls may not be stolen once they are already counted.

After banning 'Star Wars' slot machines, Disney spends millions to change Florida gambling law to "protect" its theme parks and properties - including Galaxy's Edge

Today, I heard about recent efforts by Disney against the gambling industry. I thought you guys would be interested in hearing about it, as it also heavily involves Star Wars...and particularly, Disney's plans in 2019 for Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge, and the Star Wars hotel, at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida.
It also involves Disney's existing, popular offering "Star Wars Day at Sea", and other Star Wars-related plans for its cruises in 2019, which is parly based out of the Port of Miami in Miami, Florida, and Port Canaveral (Orlando, Florida).
The tl;dnr of it is as such: (broken down into smaller sections)

Before Disney purchased Lucasfilm, Lucasfilm had allowed the construction and use of character-themed slot machines, and other gambling aspects, as related to the Star Wars brand. This was presumably done for Lucasfilm to make money off of licensing fees and royalties.
Disney, after buying Lucasfilm in 2012, "phased out" (re: banned) Star Wars and Marvel slot machines at casinos, and online gambling games, after being "exposed" as [now] owning them by New York Times reporters Lizette Alvarez and Michael Snyder. They have done so to protect their "family-friendly" brand, of which they now consider Star Wars to be a part of.
Casino owners and online vendors were against the move, saying it would hurt their businesses by taking away some of their slot machines / online gambling games.
Casino owners in Florida, seeking to expand their business(es), formed pro-gambling-growth groups, designed to try and stimulate local economies and businesses by building new casinos across the state. This would presumably include in tourism-heavy areas, such as Orlando (of which Walt Disney World is a major feature) and Miami (which is a major port for Disney Cruise Lines).
Disney has now collaborated with the Seminole Tribe of Florida, the latter of which is a major gambling monolith and owns the Hard Rock franchise, to try and pass law to change current Florida rules. The change would make it harder for people to build and open new casinos in, and around, their properties (including Disney's currently-in-production Star Wars Orlando theme park, Galaxy's Edge) by making it so that 60% of state voters would have to vote "Yes" on gambling and casino expansion in the future.
Disney has spent an estimated $17.5 million, in conjunction with the Seminole Tribe, since 2015 to combat gambling expansion in Florida. (Source) Disney donated $5 million to anti-gambling expansion efforts in April 2018, which the Seminole Tribe matched. (Source)
Disney also donated $400,000 to support the campaign of Florida governor candidate Adam Putnam, who supports Disney's anti-gambling expansion stance.
Disney has invested an estimated $1 billion in the construction of Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge. As the theme park is doing something never before done - building a land around an entirely new environment within the franchise, rather than an existing one - they are taking a huge financial risk. Their anti-gambling expansion efforts are also related to protecting their financial interests in Galaxy's Edge, as well as their planned Star Wars hotel and resort.

The Walt Disney Company is one of the most successful media conglomerate companies in the world. Just about everyone has heard of the Disney theme parks stationed in Florida, California, and abroad. Just about everyone has seen classic Disney films like Cinderella and Beauty and the Beast. Not everyone knows about Disney's relationship with the gambling industry, however, and it is a noteworthy one.
Over the years, Disney has acquired the rights to several major entertainment companies and their licensed characters. In 2009, Disney bought the Marvel Entertainment company, creator of the famed Marvel comic books and a slew of popular superhero characters. In 2012, it purchased all rights to LucasFilm, the parent company that created the Star Wars brand.
Disney announced its plans to phase out all Star Wars and Marvel-themed casino slot machines in the United States last fall. The multimillion dollar company has the power to do this, because it now owns all rights to these brands.
According to a Disney spokeswoman, the character-themed slot phase-out is not a new decision. As part of Marvel's “integration” with Disney, she said the decision was made several years ago to let the machines gradually fade out through attrition. Only a few Marvel license agreements remain at this point, and they are set to expire within the next several years. Star Wars-themed slots will also trickle away, but it will take a few more years for that process to complete.
[...] Disney wields a certain amount of power over casinos, both on land and online, because of these acquisitions. Instead of promoting Star Wars and Marvel characters via slot machines, the company prefers to use their likenesses in movies that serve to perpetuate the Disney brand.
As the owner of LucasFilm, Disney has another trilogy of Star Wars films currently in the works. [...] Fans can expect to see Disney continue to advance their brands through avenues other than the gaming industry.
Disney has made its opinion of the gambling industry known in Florida: It does not support the addition of more resort casinos to that area. Not only does Disney plan to phase out Marvel and Star Wars-themed slot machines, it also hopes to prevent the development of new casino resorts in the state.
As it stands today, Orlando's Walt Disney World is the top tourist attraction on the globe. Over 50 million people visit the entertainment resort every year and partake of theme parks like Magic Kingdom, Epcot, and Hollywood Studios. From a business standpoint, it makes sense that Disney would not want another tourist draw infringing on its potential customer base in the Orlando area.
Disney denies that self-interest is its main motivation for opposing new casinos. Andrea Finger, a spokeswoman for the company, said the corporation opposes casino expansion for “many reasons.” One of the primary reasons is the fact that Florida is a “family friendly” vacation spot; adding more casinos to the landscape would tarnish that. Finger lauded Florida's efforts in “research, innovation, and entrepreneurship” and indicated that adding more casino resorts would create an “inconsistent” atmosphere in the state.
Finger made no statement suggesting that Disney is protecting its own interests by objecting to more casinos. This inference has been made, however, by critics based on the connection between Disney and its Marvel and Star Wars slot machines that recently came to light.
Critics also cite the fact that increased Florida casinos might steal valuable convention contracts from the Mickey Mouse company. At this point, Disney hosts approximately 700,000 square feet of convention space in its Florida resorts.
Disney's ownership of Marvel and LucasFilm slot machines was brought to the public's attention by New York Times reporters Lizette Alvarez and Michael Snyder. Critics immediately began shouting hypocrisy at the fact that Disney, a vocal gambling opponent, owns and profits from character-themed casino slot machines.
The Times reporters asked Disney whether its ownership of the slots “undercut” its casino gambling stance. A spokeswoman responded that the company's affiliation with the casinos was only temporary, and that it would take a few years for current slot machine contracts to expire.
[...] When Marvel and Star Wars-themed slots do eventually disappear from casinos, their absence will be a blow to the gaming industry. Casino patrons are drawn to the colorful games touting Spider Man, Darth Vader, and other exciting Hollywood characters. Until the machines are completely phased out, the characters will continue to entertain casino patrons both online and on land.
The online gaming industry will definitely be affected by Disney's prohibition. The Spider Man Slot game, for example, is an enticing game for online gamblers that was introduced in 2012. Other Marvel-themed online slots include Iron Man 2, Iron Man 3, the Fantastic Four, Captain America, Thor, and Wolverine Slots. The eventual loss of these games will leave a gaping hole in customers' palette of gaming choices.
[Possibly in response to Disney's decision], a group called the Associated Industries of Florida launched a new pro-casino campaign. This group is lobbying for more casinos in the area as a means of promoting jobs and stimulating the local economy. Analysts expect the battle between Disney and pro-casino lobbyists to become more heated as politicians compete for voter support in the upcoming election. (Source)
[However, Orlando isn't the only city that Disney is engaging in anti-casino efforts with.] The biggest challenger standing between [the city of] Miami and casinos is a mouse.
Walt Disney World, the giant resort near Orlando whose four theme parks draw more than 45 million visitors a year, has made preventing "destination" casinos a top priority. And few, if any, businesses carry as much weight in Florida as Disney, which employs more than 60,000 workers, generates nearly $600 million a year in tax revenue — and doled out more than $2 million to political candidates and causes during the past election cycle.
Some analysts say Disney — and, by extension, Orlando's entire tourism industry — has good reason to be wary of casinos. Though adult-oriented resorts in South Florida are unlikely to appeal to Disney's core audience of families with young children, they could siphon away travelers in narrower segments that are also important to the resort, from South Americans to conventions to weddings.
"Disney has lots of little pockets or niches that they're really good at getting market share in. And it adds up," said Duncan Dickson, a professor at the University of Central Florida's Rosen College of Hospitality Management. "Disney doesn't want another Las Vegas anywhere close to them. Who needs the competition?"
[Case in point, Disney also has Disney Cruise Lines, based in both Miami and Port Canaveral (Orlando).] Disney Cruise Line has revealed it will extend its popular "Star Wars Day at Sea" program through 2019, with the addition of nine cruises -- each of which will include a Star Wars-themed sea day, complete with special programming and restaurant menus. Family-friendly activities include Star Wars character meet-and-greets, movie nights (featuring new releases), Star Wars trivia, and a Jedi training show, where kids can learn lightsaber skills and battle Darth Vader.
Throughout the day, restaurants and bars also will serve themed foods and cocktails. The sea day will end with a fireworks show and deck party, hosted by Star Wars heroes and villains. All cruises span seven nights and depart from Port Canaveral (Orlando), Florida. (Source)
[...] Disney has always opposed efforts to expand gambling, [citing it as being againts its "family-friendly" image].
The Walt Disney Co., one of the most brand-protective companies on the planet, does not want to jeopardize its kid-friendly reputation by any association whatsoever with casinos and the taboo images they often conjure. The company's cruise line is the only major operator to sail ships without onboard casinos, which are typically one of the biggest generators of on-board spending.
"We've studied this issue carefully and remain opposed for many reasons," said Disney spokesman Mike Griffin, "including the fact that it is inconsistent with Florida's brand as a family-friendly destination, and with the efforts we've long supported to diversify Florida's economy through research, innovation, and entrepreneurship."
The legislation to be considered in Tallahassee would authorize three "destination" casinos in Miami-Dade and Broward counties. Each would boast a luxury hotel, shops, restaurants, convention space and casinos with every major game, from blackjack to roulette and craps. Any company awarded a casino license would have to spend at least $2 billion building the facility.
Las Vegas Sands and Wynn Resorts, both based in Las Vegas, and Genting, a Malaysian-based resort developer, are among the companies expected to seek licenses. Genting has already spent more than $300 million to buy bay-front property in downtown Miami and has announced plans for a $3.8 billion resort.
All have promised they will create thousands of jobs in South Florida, making the deal attractive to lawmakers hoping to lower the state's 10.6 percent unemployment rate.
Analysts say anyone that invests that much capital to build a resort also will have to spend lavishly to market the property. At a minimum, that will force Disney to ramp up its own spending on advertising, eroding its profit margins.
"Anytime you've got to fight and compete with more marketing dollars, which you know these folks have in abundance, it makes Disney's job that much harder to battle against," said Vicki Johnson, a tourism-marketing expert in Orlando.
More specifically, casinos could prove attractive draws in key markets for Disney. Executives at Genting, for instance, have said they would market heavily in Latin America.
Latin America — particularly Brazil, its biggest country — has become one of Disney World's most valuable markets in recent years. This summer, even as overall attendance at the resort was about flat with a year ago, Disney officials said traffic from Brazil was up by a double-digit percentage.
Though Disney doesn't disclose exact attendance numbers, national data show that visitation from Brazil is up 27% to more than 833,000 so far this year. And though Miami is the most popular destination for South American travelers, Orlando is growing more rapidly.
Disney says its business from Brazil is predominantly family-leisure travel, the group least likely to be swayed by casinos. But some industry followers say lavish resorts, when combined with the boutique shopping already in Miami, might be enough to peel away some of that business, especially Brazilians with older children or none at all.
"All of a sudden, it really cuts into their [Disney's] South American markets," Johnson said.
Group meetings and conventions business is also a growing profit center for Disney, which has nearly 470,000 square feet of meeting space spread among its hotels. It also routinely picks up lucrative private parties and other business tied to shows using Orange County's massive, publicly owned convention center.
Finally, allowing casinos in South Florida could lead to pressure to build more in other parts of the state. Already, some hoteliers in Orlando — led by Harris Rosen, owner of three major convention hotels — have made rumblings about bringing casinos to Central Florida. And officials at Port Canaveral — Disney Cruise Line's home port — are interested in casinos, too.
"Once they get their foot in the door, what's next? Orange County is going to say, 'Well, if it's legal in Dade County, why isn't it legal here?' " said Dickson, the UCF professor.
Disney has worked to enlist broader business groups to fight the casino legislation, most notably the Florida Chamber of Commerce, even though more than half of the businesses represented on the chamber's board of directors say they are neutral on the issue.
And the opposition from Disney has put casino boosters on the defensive during the past few days.
"Florida's identity cannot be changed because one casino or two destination resorts open in Miami-Dade County," said state Rep. Erik Fresen, R-Miami, who is sponsoring the casino legislation in the Florida House of Representatives.
"Florida will always be the Sunshine State," he added. "The dominant trademark of Florida will always be Disney World. I don't think they have anything to worry about when it comes to that." (Source)
There have been multiple attempts to garner support in the state legislature for non-Native American casinos and other forms of gambling expansion in the state. Currently, the Seminoles control the ability of Florida to expand full-fledged casinos per their current compact. And the power of the Seminoles in the state is substantial.
In order to change current law, there must be a constitutional amendment backed by the voters of Florida. There is one such opportunity on the ballot for the November 6, 2018 election.
The Casino Gambling Initiative, if approved, would give voters the exclusive right to authorize casinos going forward, casinos being comprised of card games, slot machines, and other casino-style games. All ballot measures in the future would then require a citizen-initiated process by which a number of signatures of registered voters must be obtained for ballot consideration.
Currently, however, the Seminoles reserve the exclusive right to offer blackjack, craps, and roulette in Florida, which would present a problem that would have to be addressed. The agreement with the Seminoles was signed by Governor Rick Scott in 2015, and is effective for 20 years.
While this may end up in a legal fight, poker rooms are not an exclusive right of the tribe, and would not be an issue.
If Amendment 3 passes in November by 60% or more of the popular vote, a new day may begin for casinos in Florida. This will also drastically increase the opportunity for poker rooms throughout the state. (Source)
The US Supreme Court repealed the longstanding federal sports betting ban known as PASPA (Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act). The landmark decision allows states to dictate their own sports wagering laws.
That means sports betting could be coming to Florida casinos, should the legislature pass market regulations. But Republican gubernatorial candidate Adam Putnam said this week that if he’s elected, he would oppose such legislation.
[Putnam also echoes Disney's reasoning.]
“I’ve always been one who has said we don’t need to expand the footprint of gambling in Florida,” Putnam declared at a campaign stop. “It’s not who we are as a state. We’re a family-friendly vacation destination. We’re a small business-oriented state.”
“If I lived in the middle of the desert in Nevada, [like Las Vegas], maybe I would grasp onto whatever straw or life raft somebody threw me,” he continued. “But we live in Florida, and we’ve got unlimited opportunities, and we don’t need to sell our state short.” (Source)
Earlier this year, Disney also gave $400,000 to Florida Grown, a committee supporting Putnam's gubernatorial bid.
[...] Disney officials would not agree to an interview, but in a statement, Jacquee Wahler, vice president of Walt Disney World Resorts, wrote, “We support candidates who understand issues important to our company, and demonstrate strong support for business and tourism in Florida.” (Source)

The ongoing success of high-profile films, like the Marvel and Star Wars franchises, can play a big role in the theme parks ability to tap into new characters and storylines for rides and shows.
Experts have said the success in theme park rides today are built on characters and properties that resonate with visitors outside the park. Thus new lands themed after popular franchises have proven to be a boon — like Disney's Star Wars and Frozen attractions, and Universal Orlando Resort's success with the Wizarding World of Harry Potter.
[So far this year], the theme parks division for the quarter saw a 13% increase in revenue to $4.87 billion, up from $4.29 billion for the same time last year. The division also saw a 13% increase in revenue for the first six months of the year to $10.03 billion, up from $8.85 billion for the year-ago period.

"Results included a benefit from a shift in the timing of the Easter holiday relative to our fiscal periods. The current quarter included one week of the Easter holiday, whereas the entire Easter holiday fell in the third quarter of the prior year. Higher operating income at our domestic parks and resorts was primarily due to increased guest spending, attendance growth at Walt Disney World Resort and higher sponsorship revenue, partially offset by increased costs.
Guest spending growth was due to increases in average ticket prices, average daily hotel room rates and food, beverage and merchandise spending. The increase in costs was primarily due to labor and other cost inflation, an increase in depreciation associated with new attractions and higher technology spending." (Source)

Disney’s new Star Wars land won’t open until next year, but it is not too early to declare that Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge will be the most ambitious theme park land ever built.
The numbers alone might justify the claim. At 14 acres each, Disney’s twin Star Wars lands will be the largest the company has built at the Disneyland and Walt Disney World resorts. Feb 24 - Playing with the Perception of Time in dreams.

Had about 5 hours sleep last night, stayed up late watching movies with my Daughter, played some Borderlands 2. Had an argument with someone over the perception of time in dreams which only fueled my ongoing saga of cultivating time in dreams.
My passion for dreaming is fueled by the knowledge that I have regarding my own finite mortality and I have seen long ago the potential to add valuable, content-rich experience to my life during sleep by participating in the Art of Dreaming since I was 15, now reaching 46. In my view, this is the only way I know add time and experience to my life in a safe, fun and entertaining way. I exploit the Art of Dreaming to not only have new experiences but maximize the limited amount of time life offers all of us. Thus I get to live two lives, one in the waking world and one in the world of dreams. For me, this is as close as it gets to having the best of two worlds and my passion for dreaming has only increased with age knowing that clock is ticking towards the final curtain.
During the day, I practiced All-Day-Awareness and cognitive mapping taking in the rich beautiful sensory detail from my waking world and reminding myself that I will be as conscious and aware, with full sensory perception as vivid or more vivid than I have right now when I dream tonight. This mindefullness exercise has been incredible in how it impacts the level of lucidity and quality of perception in my own dreams. It works, so I practice it every day and it has helped train my mind through attention focusing to yield a realism in dreaming that is equal to or greater to how I perceive my waking world.
Like any skill, if I stop or let it go the quality of my dreams deteriorate. It would be the same if I stopped working out at the gym. My body would suffer from atrophy and it is the exact same for the mind with regards to memory, awareness and perception with dreams. As a discipline and practice, this skill that I will always develop and practice because the rewards of being able to have these high fidelity dreams are intrinsically so valuable because of the quality of experience I gain in return. Never give up, never stop dreaming. That is my motivation to myself.
Before I lie in bed, I stand there looking at it reminding myself that I will be physically asleep and anything I experience at this point until I wake up will be a dream. This helps with reality checks and asserts my intention to dream. I do this every-time. It a practice that takes less than a minute. And the pay off has been huge.
The next thing I do, is prepare for dreaming as I lie in bed. I don't just lie down and go to sleep. I don't sleep. I dream. That is the correct attitude. In this case I just focused on MILD as I thought I would do WBTB and WILD after I woke up, but I didn't expect my first phase of sleep to yield such a magnificent reward of experience and have opted to write it down rather then pursue the second phase of my sleep discipline.
My intent for dreaming was to explore the perception of time. I wondered if this really is something I could control or was it just the product of certain natural dream cycles. As I fell asleep, I let go all the constraints of physical time, and focused on psychological time. The time that my mind can produce during the process of dreaming. My subconscious answered with a stellar reply.
I drifted off to sleep without lucidity as it's my first sleep. I use this to get rest but that doesn't mean I don't dream. I do, but quite often without lucidity. This dream was the exception, I found the body drifted nicely into sleep and the dream started to form around me. After all, I was very interested in exploring Time in dreams and having had dreams form in this manner over the last 3 decades, it was quite natural to remain focused enough to see the shift happen.
The interior of a building started to form, it was a laboratory. I could see two other people, a woman and an African male. Still being conscious, I just allowed it to continue and relaxed as it form enjoying the vividness of the imagery to increase in resolution until finally I emerged into the deep immersion that dreams offer. No longer aware of my body in bed, I became my avatar in this dream simulation.
I was instantly curious as to why a laboratory formed, that was an unusual setting to wake into within a dream. There were electronic parts on the table, computers and monitoring equipment. I was greeted by the woman who said she was happy I finally arrived and asked if I was ready to being the experiments.
I replied, "What are the experiments again?" I had no idea what my subconscious was creating because I didn't try to form or shape this dream like I often do.
She hands me this black rectangular thin plastic box with a wires that had headphones (ear buds) and some other EEG style connectors. She tells me, "This device will augment how much time you can experience in a dream."
"How does it work?" I asked her.
"It uses a combination of high-frequency sound pulses and directed electromagnetic pulses that increase the refresh rate of perception. The increase in refresh rate should create a longer sense of time in your dream." she explains.
She turns the device on and shows me this touch sensitive LED that has a green bar, the longer the bar, the longer the dream. "Think of dreams as an animation, each frame of the dream represents the amount of time you perceive. The faster we can cycle through the frames, the more information you experience which will give you a longer sense of time."
"How do I keep up with the increased frame-rate?" I asked.
"As the refresh rate gradually accelerates and more information cycles through your sense of time will remain relative. Like flying in an airplane, you don't feel how fast you are traveling just the sense of acceleration." she explains.
I put in the ear buds and lay on this nice bed. She attaches the connectors to 4 spots on my head and tells me to set the amount of time I want to experience with the slider. I set it for 2 hours and close my eyes. The sounds remind me of binaural beat patterns a wavy pulsing sensation and there are flashes of white light like a fluttering butterfly. The visual light starts to pulse being almost trance like and accelerates, I find myself trying to keep pace with the increased frequency and the light then blooms into a new dream.
This dream was visually very interesting as I emerged into the new setting. There are people wearing ornate Armour, there is stone masonry for walls and buildings. It has a very medieval appeal to the design. There are knights on horses walking down the street. Some people carry wicker baskets with food, others push wooden carts.
I stop and admire this new setting because visually it looks real and stunning. One of the treasures of investing in time and awareness into this Art of Dreaming. I walk through the market just taking in the sights. This other worldy adventure taking place is as always, a joy to experience.
A knight on horse back approaches me and tells me that I am needed at the castle. I haven't seen a castle in my dream for a very long time so I go with the flow and follow him walking on this dirt road. We leave the town and walk towards this castle off in the distance. There was a nice field with trees, flowers and tan colored tall grass blowing in the wind.
The knight is telling me that I am to have and audience with the princess as she seeks my council. I don't say much, I just want to keep focus and enjoy the beauty as it presents itself.
I walk for some time, just enjoying being there and at the castle there are guards at the gate. The castle also has other buildings outside of it. We go inside, there are candles burning on these metal posts on the walls.
There is a large wooden table with chairs, hand crafted tin dishes and some fruit in a bowl. There are unlit candles on the table. There are flags hanging on the walls with artwork embroidered into them.
Several guards and other people are there and this lady walks up to me. She looks exactly like the female scientist, the exact same character but now dressed in this white gown, her hair braided and wrapped with tiny flowers. She's happy to see that I have arrived and greets me.
"It is wonderful to see you!" she tells me. I smile at the princess and remember her from the labratory. A pleasant reminder that I am still in a dream and this is like a form of deep immerse role-play.
"It's nice to see you, what a nice change of scenery." I tell her.
The same African man approaches from the originating dream, he is now wearing armour that is also ornate. "You've come a great distance to be with us. We are glad to have one as wise as you to take place on our council." he explains.
I look at the end of the castle and see the throne, there is an aged old man with a long white beard and crown, his outfit is heavy and thick making him look larger than life and impressive. "That must be the king." I reply.
"Indeed, he is not so trusting as we are. You will have to earn your favor with him." the man explains.
"I'm more interested in just enjoying this dream, it is quite wonderful to be here for now." I tell him. I remember the device and the idea of time.
"I was told you are quite a skilled dreamer." the princess replies. "It is strange to hear someone say that this is a dream. I find that surprising."
"Well, I've become quite used to being in a dream, it's not that hard to determine where one is. Before I arrived I was in a laboratory using a device that accelerates perception in dreams, I remember wearing the device and phasing into this location." I tell her.
She wants to hear more about it. "What is this device?" she asks.
"I'm not sure myself, it's not real. Rather it too is part of another dream I was having. Likely just a representation of my focus and intent characterized in a dream object." I reply.
"I wish to have this device! I want to control time." she tells me. "Can you bring it to me?"
I laugh, "I don't think that device belongs in this genre. It exists in another dream. More so it's not the device that is creating time. Time is relative to perception, we create time." I tell her.
She smiles and becomes very excited, "This is so interesting, I am so happy you are here." and she gives me a hug. Her father overlooking from the Throne doesn't look too pleased. Myself however, I can't get enough of this new exciting genre of being in some medieval setting in a castle.
She calls on her servants to fetch wine and food inviting me to sit at the table. I sit in this large wooden chair next to her. Other knights and people take a seat while a servant brings this open clay jug and starts to pour wine into the goblets.
When the glasses are filled, I can smell the wine. It's red and I have a sip. It tastes sweet. I relax and enjoy the experience. Food starts to arrive and the princess is telling other people the tale of this strange device that controls time. She tells them that I am a master dreamer and honored guest.
She instructs her servants to prepare a room for me. The dish looks like roasted quail with potatoes. There are fresh herbs. The princess seems to be taking an affinity to me she leans her head on my shoulder but this seems to make her father angry and even some of the guards seem to be a big jealous. I'm not interested in her, mostly because I know she's gone once I wake up. I don't invest any emotional attachment to any dream character as a result. Rather I just enjoy their unique individuality as an actor in the dream.
Her father comes to the head of the table and sits looking at me with a stern gaze. "I see my daughter fancies you stranger." he tells me. "She is not someone that I so willing give away."
I look at the king and guards, "I'm here to enjoy all of your company. We are all friends here."
But the princess insults the king by saying, "It is I who choses who am to be with Father not you!" and she wraps her arm around me pulling me close to her.
Angered he tells her, "I think it's time your friend retires to his room." and he instructs his guards to escort me. When dreams start to create drama, I tend to want to avoid it so I go along with the flow and am escorted to this room with a wooden bed.
The one guard tells me, "The King doesn't take kindly to men who woo his daughter. You are best to leave her alone."
I smile and tell him I am going to go to sleep. He closes the door and I look at the room, there is a couple of paintings on the wall, more embroidered flags. The walls are stone with a smooth finish. I lie down and close my eyes waking up back in the labratory.
I sit up and see the same two main dream characters. The lady asks me, "Well, what did you think?"
"I had a nice dream that I was at a castle, you were there but as a princess." I reply.

I look at the device and wonder if I could go deeper, longer into another dream. I realize the device is just a manifestation of my focus and intent to prolong dreaming. I am in the void, the emptiness like a single point observing eternal infinite potential. It's peaceful, relaxing and I just focus in this space as if lying in a beach with nothing to do but enjoy one's sense of being.
The sense of time keeps stretching seconds feel like minutes, minutes feel like hours then suddenly I wake up and am in a new dream. Right away I realize that I didn't actually wake up physically, just another extension of dreaming while my body is asleep.
In this dream, I am at my Uncles apartment in Vancouver. I haven't been there in many many years. He is sitting on his couch and surprised to see me. "Ian! What are you doing here? Why have you taken so long to visit me?" he asks.
I take a moment to stabilize my focus and affirm I am still dreaming. "I've been busy. Life gets in the way." I tell him.
"Tell me what you have been up to, how are things going?" he asks.
"Dreaming, I am still very busy chasing my dreams." I tell him.
"Good, you always talk highly of them." he replies.
"Well, so far in this dream I was in a laboratory with some device that lets me control time in dreams. I was then at some castle with a princess where I angered her father the King. And now I am here, so it's good to dream." I reply.
He laughs, "You always did have a big imagination."
"It fuels my dreams." I use dream control and turn on his TV and use intent to show the memories of the Castle dream. "There is the castle and that's the princess." I tell him.
He watches in amazement, "How are you doing that!"
"Well, I'm technically not really visiting you in the way you think. This is another extension of the same dream. I've changed locality is all. Ended up here, but this is still a dream." I reply.
The common theme with dream characters is they always disbelieve the fact that a dream is what it is. "No, that can't be. This can't be a dream!" he replies.
"Why? Because it looks and appears real? That is what dreaming is. Simulations of reality." I reply. "And we don't have to be in this boring apartment."
I focus on the dream and start to visualize and think in this dream language causing the setting to change where we are suddenly in this new genre. Now I am in full control of the art form. I create an entirely science-fiction themed reality where everything except he and I are a type of humanoid robot. It is a combination of Steam-Punk and Anime.
For example one of the robots was a female that had this metallic dress. The dress had sections that layered down. The metal was brass, she had an engine on her back with an exhaust pipe that puffed out smoke. Here face, arms and legs were all brass but she walked relatively normally as if human.
The buildings were very tall with large pipes and many made with brick. He is just in shock, even grabs me and stairs wildly in my eyes. "This can't be real!" he explains.
"Of course it's not real. It's a dream. But it's sure beautiful. Let's go for a walk and explore." I tell him.
He's looking around at all the details still in awe. There is this wonderful blimp with a basket floating in the sky. It has thick rope making it look almost like a football and a wooden propeller at the back. "Alice and wonderland makes so much more sense now. I can see how writers can draw such raw imagination from this living art." I tell my uncle.
He doesn't reply, he's just stuck in a state of awe looking around as if he was suddenly transported into a new reality. "This is why I dream." I tell him. "Wonderful isn't it?"
"I've never seen anything like this, it's amazing!" he replies.
There is this robot boy, it has this wheel that has thick spokes like a gear, he has a 1920's era newspaper boy hat and suit with a bag over his shoulder full of papers, he zig-zags through the crowd. There are so many amazing looking steam-punk robots here all fantastically animated, everywhere I look there is something else rich in detail and form. Just doesn't get better than this really.
When my attention is away from my Uncle, he disappears into the crowd. I go to look for him and start to walk down the street, being drawn a bit into the dream drama. The reality, no reason to be concerned just enjoy the experience but that also indicates a loss of focus and lucidity. Thus I make finding him the focus rather then exploring the amazing world I effortlessly summoned.
I wind down the street, concerned looking in shops turning down alley ways. Finally I come to the realization that he is gone and wake up.
Again I am back at the laboratory, another false-awakening. "Damn this dream is lasting a long time! I love it!" I say out loud.
"What did you dream this time?" asked the lady.
"Oh I really liked that dream, I started at my Uncles apartment then shifted the dream into this robotic world full of steam-punk inspired robots. It was amazing." I replied.
"How long did the dream last?" she asked.
"The dream didn't last as long as I would have liked, maybe 30 minutes but leading up to it, it felt very long. How long was I asleep this time?" I asked her.
She looks at her wrist watch, "A few hours." she replied.
"No I need to dream even longer than this. I have to do better." I tell her. I look at the device and crank the LED to max but this time there is another LED in the reverse direction so I max that out as well. I lie down and close my eyes and think about being with my Daughter in Las Vegas for a mini-vacation.
The dream shifts and I find myself walking to a Hotel, my daughter is beside me. Again the realism of the dream is spectacular. I've been to Vegas twice in my life and this dream does a pretty good job of simulating Vegas but it's not 100% legit that said, pretty damn close once we made it to the strip.
Our hotel was not in the strip however, it was off somewhere else several blocks away. As we walked I noticed we had two cats following us. One was my daughters female tabby cat named Starla and the other was her brother Evermore who my sister owns. When we arrived at the hotel my daughter wanted to bring them inside with us. I wasn't fully lucid and told her that the cats needed to stay outside because the were not allowed in the hotel. She didn't like that idea, "What if something happens to them Daddy?" she asks.
"They'll be fine. Don't worry about them." I tell her and walk inside the hotel. I go to the counter and check in, the lady takes my information and credit card. She has me sign a form and hands me two skeleton keys for the rooms and some information about the hotel. The hotel is not like some of the more amazingly grand ones Vegas offers, rather it was a very narrow tall building and seemed almost 1950's era with old wooden doors with brass handles. We walk to our room, I can't remember the number. I use the skeleton key to unlock the door.
Once inside the room, there are two beds and a old style cathode TV with the knob to change the channels. I am a bit confused why everything is old in this hotel but think it might be some Vegas theme. My daughter runs to a bed and jumps on it proclaiming, "This one's mine!" and she starts to jump on it.
"Don't jump on the beds sweet heart, they might kick us out." and I sit on the edge of mine pressing my hands into the mattress feeling the softness. It was quite firm. Having lost lucidity, it was just a matter of having space to think before I began to realize that I was still in some type of dream. It's always when I start to think about the situation questioning why I was in Vegas in the first place. The dream had a back story for memory. My work had sent me there for a conference and I was supposed to join up with them at the center and join them for dinner. But that didn't make sense.
I looked at my hand pressing into the mattress, everything was super-real. This common immersion into such a sensory rich dream making the reality-check difficult but I was coming around. I didn't remember planning a trip, how did I get here? Following that pattern of thought I remembered the other dreams and the laboratory. I remembered lying in the bed thinking about being in Vegas with my Daughter, must of lost consciousness during the shift. I snapped back to full wakefullness and re-affirmed I was dreaming.
Sitting on the bed with my hands on each side made a perfect anchor to just balance and re-focus. I can't stress how much I use this technique to re-orientate my awareness in a dream. I look at my daughter and tell her, "Let's go for a walk and see the city."
She's excited and puts her shoes on and grabs her jacket. It's here brown winter jacket from waking life. Very unlikely she'd wear it in Las Vegas but served to remind me that I was dreaming. Made sense being a dream and all.
I took her hand and we walked out of the room down the corridor to the lobby. No elevator or stairs so must be on the first floor. The lobby looks the same as it did when we first arrived. I was just more aware of the details now that I was conscious.
We go outside and I tell her she's going to love this place. Taking dream vacations for me is almost as good as the real thing. I had that wonderful feeling of being on vacation. That excitement of adventure and exploration. We walk down this flight of concrete stairs to the sidewalk. The street was busy, cars driving about. I could see the strip, large hotels towering in the distance.
I don't think where we were was accurate to Vegas though, even the strip had inconsistencies. We walked down the street and there was a flight of concrete stairs leading down between some other buildings. I didn't care, it was nice to be here and I always like dreams with family especially with my daughter because no vacation would be complete without her to enjoy it with.
We walk hand in hand, she's excited about being there. When we get closer to the strip, I do see the Excalibur and the Pyramid building. I point it out and my daughter tells me it looks like Disney Land. The streets are bustling with people and we go inside this candy shop.
The shop is full of different candies on tables and shelves. She runs off to look at some, not stopping one moment before she has some lollipop in her mouth. It was like a gumball on a stick with red and blue swirls on white.
I watch as she's grabbing different candy packages, some she's putting in her pockets of her brown winter jacket. Relaxed in the dream, I don't bother to raise issue that she might be stealing. At this point all waking world laws and rules do not apply. I just like watching her have fun. Even if it is just a dream character version of her.
She has a pile of candy in her cupped hands and walks to the counter dumping the pile in front of the clerk. She reaches into her pockets and pulls out the candies she put there and I think, "That's a good girl."

"So they ditched on you too huh?" he tells me. "Don't worry come hang with us." he says and grabs my arm dragging me to some pub. My daughter follows in hand. He is with his wife. "Food and drink is on me, let's have some fun!" he tells me.
The pub/restaurant has a German theme. No denying that the men were wearing German Lederhosen and the waitress were wearing dirndl dresses with braided blond hair and pony tails. Hard to not notice that theme. The tables were also circular with white table cloths over them. We walk to a table and they sit down but I'm not sure if this is what I want to do with my daughter because I was enjoying exploring.
"This place looks awesome!" I tell him, "I'd love to stay but I have my daughter and we are going to do some shopping. Maybe we can join up later and have some beers."
"Are you sure?" he asks, his wife motioning for us to sit and join.
"No everything is fantastic, remember? Best of both worlds." I tell him and I walk out of the pub with my daughter. She's not holding my hand and gets caught up in the crowd. She stops to digs into her candy bag and grabs some wrapped toffee.
"You have to hold my hand. I don't want you to wonder off and loose you in the crowd." I tell her as I walk over and grab her hand. We walk to the strip and enter into one of the long shopping malls. Now this is looking a lot more like Vegas, large space, beautiful ornate architecture. The endless sea of people though, the level of detail is always so stunning.
There is this elephant ride, the classic stand-alone plastic coin operated kind we often see at malls and of course who wants to ride it? Can't say no to that so off she goes and has a ride on the Elephant as I watch as it just sways back and forth bobbing up and down. Finally the ride ends and we go back walking.
We see an entrance to a casino with all the slot machines and she wants to go in, I mean being a dream you'd think I'd say sure but I told her she's not old enough yet. Also I wasn't very interested in the Casino, the walking through the endless shops was absolutely fun.
We finally get to one of the motorized moving floors and she wants to ride it. We end up at the conference area as I see many people from my work drinking alcohol and mingling.
One of my co-workers walks up to me and asks, "Where have you been, we have been looking everywhere for you."
"I'm with my daughter. She hasn't been to Vegas so we are out exploring." I tell him.
"You brought your daughter on vacation with you? This is still a work trip." he tells me.
"No, it's not. It's actually a dream." I reply. "I can do what I want."
He looks at me strangely. "Are you sure?" he asks. He looks around.
"Oh, trust me. It doesn't get any more dream than this." I tell him. "That's why we are just having fun. It's a blast being here."
"I still don't know how you do it." he tells me. "Wish I could dream like you."
"Lots and lots of practice." I reply. We take some time to mingle with people I knew from work. I introduce my daughter to them still holding her hand. I get her a pop and I have a slush with alcohol in it. We sit at this table and have a drink.
Another person I knew from upper management walks over and starts to talk shop. He wants to know if I can create a report but I stop him. "On vacation, just a dream. Don't bring work into it." I laugh.
I watch my daughter drink her pop sucking back on a straw, and even though she's just a simulation it reminds me how much I love and care for her. Couldn't think of anyone better to just spend time with in a dream so I was making this one last.
After a while we leave and go back walking, I was so caught up in all the details I was loosing lucidity again. Drawn back into the dream immersion she tells me she's getting tired and wants to go back to the hotel. I'm not sure where that is but we start to walk back until I recognize the flight of concrete stairs we walked down to get towards the strip and finally find the same street and same hotel.
We go back down the corridor to the hotel and I open the door this time without a key, it was just open. Inside, she crawls into bed. "Thanks for taking me to Vegas daddy, I love it here!" I give her a kiss on the forehead and tuck her in. I feel tired too and crawl into my bed. I close my eyes and fall asleep. The sleep feels like hours, again in that black empty void just floating in empty time.
I wake up, but I am back in the same hotel in Vegas. My daughter is still in bed but this time the wake up brings with it lucidity. I snap back to focus shocked that I am not in my real but and also elated that I was still dreaming. "Damn this really is a long dream!" I tell myself.
I go over and wake up my daughter. "Wake up! We have lots to do today." I tell her.
She slowly comes too and gets out of bed. We are already dressed in clothes, I don't want to waste a minute getting ready. We go back out of the hotel. The lobby is the same as the first and second time I saw it. Just making note of consistency as often details do change but this seemed very stable for such a long dream.
Back down the concrete steps to the side walk, down the same street to the next set of steps. People still crowding the streets and I notice two cats. It was the two that had followed us to Vegas. Starla and Evermore were waiting on the steps for us. However, this is kind of the humor dreams can have. They didn't have a good time being abandoned in the streets of Las Vegas.
Both cats looked like they had been fighting with other cats all night with scratches and bites. Their hair was all dirty and standing on end in some places. They also looked very neglected and emancipated, as if starved for a few days. My daugher is all upset. "See Daddy! We should have taken them to the hotel room!"
I kneel down and the cats come to me to be petted. Knowing it's a dream I can't help but laugh. I see the humor of this. "It's a dream, they aren't really here." I tell her.
"But they are all beat up!" she complains.
"No, no they are not." I tell her as I focus on the two beat up cats and restore them to back to health. "Tell you what, they can come with. We'll take them everywhere we go."
"Really?" she says all relieved and happy. "I love you Daddy!".
We go back to holding hands and walking back towards the strip. The two cats now following behind us (they do follow us in real life when we go for walks). We see the Stratosphere Tower with the roller coaster and that is our destination. I tell my daughter that we are going to go one that ride on the top of that building.
It's off in the distance and she is very excited about this. But the problem was walking, we walked far too long because like every dream the eventual real world wake-up happened. No matter how much time I try to create to prolong the dream. Real world time catches up and here is the end result.
Took me forever to write this dream down and normally would have my second sleep but because this one was so amazing and fun I had to log as much as I could remember. In 5 hours sleep, I had a hell of a lot of fun with time. Still didn't come close to some of the very long time stretches I've had in the past but not complaining. Just reaping the rewards of lucidity every chance I get.
